Rift

A Rift is an anomaly in which a tear in Space occurs, bridging two or more realms through destructive force.

The theory of a Rift consists of manipulation and destruction. The Caster manipulates the fabric of Space, on a scale immeasurably more immense than that of minor Casts. They create vibrations within Space and charged said vibrations to a point where their etheral friction causes a wearing down of Space structure. The second stage of destruction involves a final pulse of energy causing the Rift to form. The pulsation of these energies derived from the Caster result in the expansion of the Rift; the stronger the energies of the Caster, the larger the Rift created will form.

A Rift may be used to transport items across dimensions or locations/periods of time. If a Rift is formed within a larger parameter, an individual or entitiy may pass through the Rift, and, if created in a certain manner by use of immense etheral energies, a Yggdrasil Fissure and/or other Space anomoly may enter existance.

Although most Rifts are created against the etheral law of Order, some Rifts are fixed points throughout Time and Space; these fixed points are often refered to as Gates.

Specific Rifts:

Bermuda Triangle: The Bermuda Triangle is a Shifting Rift, a Rift that connects to the same destination, but shifts location on either side of the connection. The Shifting Rift of the Bermuda Triangle is, however, a Gate, created by Excalibur's Chaotic Disciple, Oceanus. The Tidal Barrier cast around the perimeter of the Shifting Rift proximity was erected by Excalibur himself.

Back Cove; Portland, ME: The aquatic encirclement of Back Cove is an experimental region used in the research and manipulation of Temporary Rifts. Although mainly used for such experiments, a Yggdrasil Fissure was created at the center point of the Cove during an experiment in which the correlation of the Library of the Soul, in correspondance of the Guardian Incarnate Cycle, and the Rift energy patterns were analyzed. The experiment was in the final stage, the creation of a Gate to the Library was in attemption, but a foreign energy was cast into the splice of energy. The result was an infectious Yggdrasil Fissure with spores that contianed Space altering Cast Particles. The Fissure was selaed by the Guardians.

Guardian Incarnate Cycle - Law of the Cycle

*Guardian Incarnate Cycle Representation - Law of the Cycle*
The Guardian Incarnate Cycle is the omnipotent inheritance that determines the forthcoming Guardian. With each incarnation of the Guardian Spirit, a new Soul is added to the Cycle, thus empowering the following Guardians the ability to manipulate the forces controlled by the previous.

James Ozpin, the protagonist of the series, is the 26th Guardian in the Cycle, and also the last (known as Final Chapter). The preceding 25 Guardians are as follows:

Lockciel (Guardian of Locks & Keys), Scripture (Guardian of Words), Nexus (Guardian of Space), Eon (Guardian of Time), Solaris (Guardian of Sun), Lunarem (Guardian of Moon), Life (Guardian of Life), Death (Guardian of Death), Excalibur (Guardian of Water), Clarent (Guardian of Fire), Tyrfing (Guardian of Air), Durrendal (Guardian of Earth), Summer (Guardian of Heat), Winter (Guardian of Cold), Autumn (Guardian of Wind), Spring (Guardian of Flowers), Flora (Guardian of Trees), Fauna (Guardian of Wildlife), Tempest (Guardian of Storm), Vesuvius (Guardian of Magma), Shiro (Guardian of Light), Kuro (Guardian of Shadow), Ark (Guardian of Technology), Echo (Guardian of Sound), Sylas (Guardian of Mirror), & James (Guardian of Final Chapter).

Law of the Cycle:
The Law of the Cycle is the force that dictates the Incarnate Cycle. The Law of the Cycle is also the force that foresaw the birth of the Final Chapter, prophesying the end of the Cycle and the final weighing of Chaos and Order upon the Scales of Fate. Scripture has the ability to read directly from the energies of the Law, making him the Librarian (thus, Keeper of the Law).

Yggdrasil Fissure

*Yggdrasil Tree of Norse Mythology*
The Yggdrasil Fissure is an anomaly that occurs when a Rift is created and the pane of existence beyond expands the diameter of the rift, thus "branching" into the existence opposite the Rift Origination Point.

Tremendous amounts of energy are required to expand a Rift and successfully insert on existence into another. Due to the excessive energy collected during the Yggdrasil Fissure's formation, ethereal pollution of the realm at point of entry is nearly impossible to prevent.

The Asgard Pollutionary Region is the region of existence primarily polluted by the 'branching" energies of the Yggdrasil Fissure. The Midgard Gate is the Fissure's expanded Rift Origination Point. The Niflheim is the Cast Origination Point (the location of existence immediately opposite of the Fissure, where the Fissure was constructed).

Etymology:
The Yggdrasil Fissure anomaly's namesake is derived from the Norse mythological Yggdrasil Tree or World Tree.

The Yggdrasil Tree of Norse mythology is an ash tree located at the center of the universe, connecting the Nine Worlds of Norse cosmology.

The highest realm of the Yggdrasil is known as the Asgard, the realm of the Gods, Midgard, located approximate to the center of the tree, is the realm of the humans, and Niflheim, the realm containing Hel (the realm of the dead) is the lowermost realm of the Yggdrasil.
